Transition Activities w.c. 29th June 2020

As you know, next year your child will be moving into Year Three! This is a very exciting time; however, we know that it can be a bit worrying too and that is okay. We have chosen a really lovely story called ‘The Cautious Caterpillar’ for you to read with your child (please see video video below). It is a wonderful story where the caterpillar is afraid and worried of change, but finally he turns into a butterfly and he embraces the change. Next, take a look at the ‘Spread Your Wings and Fly’ PowerPoint and with your child discuss the characters and how change can be a good thing. Give your child an opportunity to share their own worries about moving class then discuss what they are excited about! 😊

Activity – We have attached some acrostic poem templates for your child to write down some adjectives to help the caterpillar or describe what they are looking forward to next year in their new classes. Your child may want to use the vocabulary from the story or their own ideas.

Here is some additional information about transitions:

Activity 2 – ‘All About Me’ template for your child’s new teacher. You can use the template provided, make a poster or they can write a letter to their new teacher telling them all about you.

Activity 3 – ‘Milton the Worry Monster’ instructions to make a worry monster. An activity for your child to make a ‘Worry Monster’ that they can tell any worries to about moving into Year 3.

Please enjoy some wonderful songs about change!
